Dr. Muehlschlegel is Associate Professor of Neurocritical Care and an academic neurointensivist at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS). Her NIH-funded research program in Shared Decision Making and outcome prognostication focuses on creating, testing and implementing decision aids for surrogate decision-makers in neurocritically ill patients and improving physicians’ communication of prognosis. She currently co-chairs a new guideline for the prognostication of neurologic emergencies in the ICU, a joint endeavor of the Neurocritical Care Society and the German Society of Neuro-Intensive Medicine (DGNI). Besides leading her own clinical research lab (www.umassmed.edu/nccresearch), she is the UMMS Director of Neurocritical Research and the Co-Director of the UMMS Junior Faculty Development Course, which is considered a national model for early-career faculty development. She is an active member of the Neurocritical Care Society as a previous member of the Board of Directors and current Research Operations Sub-Committee co-chair.
