Stephen Bjarnason

stephenbjarnasonStephen Bjarnason is Section Head of the Casualty Management Section (CMS) at DRDC Suffield and manages a research staff of twenty-five. The mandate of the CMS is to provide applied science research and advice on matters of importance to the Canadian Forces and Public Security. Mr Bjarnason has over 24 years of experience in Federal Government of Canada research facilities. Prior to his employment at DRDC, he worked at Health Canada researching the effects of air pollution using animal and ex vivo models. During this time he managed and conducted complex inhalation toxicology studies examining the effects of exposure to airborne pollutants. Shortly after his arrival at DRDC Suffield, he became Group Head of the Casualty Care Group and then Section Head of CMS. Since taking this research management position, he has transitioned the Section towards blast injury research, while maintaining a capability in chemical warfare agent medical countermeasures research.
