Peter van Manen is Managing Director of McLaren Electronic Systems, the company that supplies control and data systems to all competitors in the Formula One, NASCAR and indyCar motor racing racing series. The company also provides products, systems and services to the automotive, aerospace and transport industries. Peter has worked for McLaren for over 20 years and, in his time with the company, has been involved with every system the company has ever put onto a Formula One car. These include the real-time telemetry and data systems that have now been installed and used as the platform for detecting deterioration in ill children in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Peter is a mechanical engineer by background and has worked in mining, railways, defence and motorsport. He is Australian, but has lived and worked for most of his professional life in the United Kingdom.
