E. Wesley Ely, MD, MPH (7/8 VA) is the Associate Director of Research and a senior scientist for the Veteran Affairs Tennessee Valley Geriatric Education Research and Clinical Care (GRECC). Dr. Ely is a Professor of Medicine and an intensivist focused on the care of older Veterans who has translated his original body of research (published in NEJM, Lancet, JAMA) on ICU Delirium into large scale quality improvement programs utilizing implementation science and working as faculty at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) over the past 5 years. Dr. Ely is the founder of the ICU Delirium and Cognitive Impairment Study Group (www.icudelirium.org) and his passion is to improve the lives of older patients world-wide who develop acute and long-term brain dysfunction following critical illness.
