Dr. Samuel Brown

Dr. Samuel M. Brown is Associate Professor of Critical Care Medicine and Ethics and Humanities at the University of Utah and Research Associate Professor of Medicine at Intermountain Medical Center (IMC). He trained at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of Utah. Dr. Brown is Chair of Acute Care Research, Director of Critical Care Research, Director of the Center for Humanizing Critical Care, and Associate Director of Critical Care Echocardiography at IMC. His core scientific expertise is in septic cardiomyopathy and the human experience of critical illness, including long-term outcomes. In collaboration with patients and families, Dr. Brown uses clinical trials, advanced statistical techniques (including machine learning), and humanism to address clinical problems in sepsis and ARDS. With substantial funding from National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and private research foundations, Dr. Brown has >150 publications, including 6 books.
