Dr. Samara Zavalkoff

Dr. Zavalkoff is an attending physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of the Montreal Children’s Hospital McGill University Health Centre and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at McGill University. As a patient safety and quality improvement expert, her academic work focuses on improving care processes in the ICU including team communication, prevention of ICU complications and optimizing organ donation. Dr. Zavalkoff is the program director for the Pediatric Critical Care Residency Program for McGill University. She is also the Medical Director of the Montreal Children’s Hospital ECMO program. Dr. Zavalkoff is the lead author of the recently published article “Potential organ donor identification and system accountability: expert guidance from a Canadian consensus conference” and is leading the implementation of this work.
