Dr. Renee Stapleton is an Associate Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Vermont. Her research is focused on improving outcomes in critically ill patients through novel pharmaconutrient and supportive care therapies, as well as communication with patients and families. She has received funding from the US National Institutes of Health, National Palliative Care Research Center, American Thoracic Society (ATS), and other agencies. Renee is currently PI of three NIH-funded multicenter RCTs investigating: 1) amino acid supplementation plus early in-bed cycle ergometry in patients with acute respiratory failure, and 2) a specific communication intervention about code status in seriously ill hospitalized patients, and 3) a novel restraint device. She is active in the ATS, including serving as Vice-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee and Chair-Elect of the Critical Care Assembly. She has published in high-impact journals and is frequently invited to speak at national and international meetings.
