Dr. Paul Murphy

Dr Paul Murphy trained in Cambridge, Bristol and Leeds. As a trainee he was the first British Journal of Anaesthesia research fellow, following which he was appointed Consultant in Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust where he has held various positions that include College Tutor, Clinical Director for Anaesthesia and acting Directorate Manager for Critical Care Services. He was a member of the UK Organ Donation Taskforce that published the landmark report ‘Organs for Transplant’ in 2008, and since then has been the National Clinical Lead for Organ Donation at NHS Blood and Transplant. He has lectured across the world and was clinical advisor to Work Package 5 of the EU-sponsored ‘ACCORD’ project.
He was awarded the Dudley Buxton Medal by the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2013 for his services to organ donation and transplantation in the UK.
