Michael_Ramsay“Michael Ramsay, MD is Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas, Texas.  He is President of Baylor Research Institute, which leads clinically relevant research efforts throughout Baylor Scott & White Healthcare and has more than 1,000 active clinical studies currently ongoing in numerous specialties.  Dr. Ramsay holds several professorships, is Director of Anesthesia for the BUMC liver transplant program, and past president of the International Liver Transplant Society. He has published over 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, with over 60 manuscripts specifically related to liver transplantation, plus multiple chapters in major textbooks. Dr. Ramsay’s primary clinical practice is providing anesthesia for liver transplantation and cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Ramsay was born in Dublin, Ireland and trained at the University of London and was a consultant at the London Hospital. He developed the Ramsay Sedation Scale, which identifies levels of sedation and is widely used throughout the world. Dr. Ramsay is a sought-after lecturer, both nationally and internationally, on topics such as liver transplantation, sedation, opioid-induced respiratory depression, and other patient safety issues.
