Martin J Tobin MD went to medical school at University College Dublin, Ireland (1969-75). He completed a medical residency in Dublin, and undertook fellowship training at King’s College Hospital, London, University of Miami, and University of Pittsburgh. Since 1990, he has served as professor of medicine at Hines VA Hospital and Loyola University Medical School in Chicago. He has published original research on mechanical ventilation, control of breathing, respiratory muscle function, and other areas of pulmonary and critical care medicine. Between 1999 and 2004, Dr. Tobin served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Tobin is the Editor of Principles and Practice of Mechanical Ventilation, which has been published in three editions (1994, 2006, 2012).
