Professor Frank van Haren completed his dual specialist training as Physician and Intensive Care Specialist in Nijmegen, The Netherlands in 2000. He relocated to Canberra, Australia in 2011, where he was appointed Associate Professor with the Australian National University Medical School, Director of Intensive Care Research, Senior Staff Specialist at Canberra Hospital, and State Medical Director for DonateLife.
Professor van Haren has developed a strong international research profile. This is exemplified by invitations to write review articles and editorials, and to provide plenary lectures at national and international scientific meetings. His main research interests include sepsis, nutritional therapy, ARDS, and fluid resuscitation. His work on “Novel haemodynamic therapies in septic shock; effects on circulation, organ perfusion and immune system”, was awarded a PhD in 2010.
