Dr. Benjamin Steinberg

Dr Steinberg completed his medical, anesthesia and PhD training at the University of Toronto, and is currently a clinical fellow in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children. During his post-doctoral work, under the supervision of Dr Kevin Tracey, he investigated how peripheral neural circuits monitor system inflammatory responses. His ongoing research interest focuses on the interface between the immune and nervous systems. Specifically, his work aims to delineate how the nervous system monitors inflammatory responses and engineer peripheral nerve stimulation paradigms to modify systemic inflammation. These bioelectronic approaches have the potential to impact on a variety of clinically important diseases in both adult and pediatric populations, such as sepsis, trauma, and lung injury.
